A Message From Our President

Ann Marie Strauss
Director of College Counseling
The Bryn Mawr School (MD)

Dear PCACAC Members:

It’s July 1, 2022 -- let’s do this!

Thank you for your confidence as I continue the excellent leadership of James B. Massey, Jr. and Rebekah LaPlante, with the unending support of Rosemary Martin Edwards, Libby Weith, Melisa Hypolite, Lynn Lyon-Vaiden (our Executive Assistant), Mark Polakow (our web/tech coordinator) and all of the PCACAC Board members.

Much work has been done over the past two years to help PCACAC remain a strong and consequential association dedicated to serving students, families and admission professionals throughout our region, nationally and the world. We cannot thank our membership enough for your partnership, passion and persistence in the face of a global pandemic. We survived -- and we thrived.

I look forward to partnering with EACH OF YOU in our collective work. ALL are welcome in PCACAC. Please join us!

Hoist the mainsail, colleagues. We’ve caught the wind and are off on the next leg of our PCACAC voyage.

Anchors Away!

All my best,

Ann Marie

A Message From Our Past President

James B. Massey, Jr.
Director of Undergraduate Admissions
University of Maryland, College Park (MD)

Dear PCACAC Members:
Thank you to all for such a wonderful year of great programming, opportunities to connect and of course our collective work to bring our Annual Spring Conference back in person!  Through all of our efforts, we have truly learned that we are indeed #StrongerTogether!

It has been my pleasure to serve as President of PCACAC and I count it as one of my true professional joys and highlights of my career thus far.  It is because of the hard work of each and every one of our members that we have been able to have such a successful year.  As I have always said, any one of you can sit in this seat as President of PCACAC, and I hope that you are inspired by the work that we do as a collective and that you think about doing so in the future!  And as I also have often said, I encourage each of you to find that one thing that you can support within the organization and throw your full support behind that effort.  Who knows, you may just find or feed your passion!  Thank you to each of you for your support this year.

As we prepare for the transition of the Presidency, I am excited to share a few updates and new appointments that we will certainly set the stage for the continued success of PCACAC in the coming year:

New PCACAC Appointments - Beginning Summer 2022
Membership Chair:  Alice Whitener, James Madison HS (VA)
Conference Chair:  Damian Garcia, Glenelg Country School (MD)
Ad Hoc Committee Chair for Membership Modeling:  Scott Mayer, St. Christopher's School (VA)
Local Advisory Committee Chairs for Baltimore NACAC 2023:  Lisa Hill, Goucher College (MD) and Jayne Fonash, JCFONASH Consulting (VA)
Appointed Delegate-at-Large:  Wendy Ayala, Collegiate Directions, Inc. (MD)

Congratulations to each of the members above and a special thank you to them for answering the call to serve!  We are so very excited to work with you.

As I transition to my new role and office of Past-President, it is with great excitement and joy that I welcome our new President, Ann Marie Strauss!  Ann Marie, we are thrilled to see you move into the role of President and we look forward to your leadership.   I am also pleased to welcome Rosemary Martin Edwards to the role of President-Elect!  Rosemary, we welcome you to the Presidential-Cycle and we look forward to working with you in your new role.

Again, thank you to each of you for your support.  A special thank you to the best leadership team that a President could ever ask for - Rebekah, Ann Marie, Libby and Melisa - you will always be tops in my book - thank you!

Anchors Away!
Warmest Regards,
James

A Message From PCACAC Leadership

Dear PCACAC Members:

We stand with those who are outraged by the recent racially and politically motivated murders that took place in Buffalo, New York and Laguna Woods, California. We grieve for those who lost their lives and for the families and friends of the fallen. PCACAC stands with the Black and Taiwanese communities who were the targets of these hate crimes.

We are also horrified by the devastating and senseless shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Violence anywhere threatens all of us everywhere. These horrific acts highlight the ugly challenges that we continue to face in America ― racism, hatred, and violent extremism.

We want you to know that we remain committed to our core values as an organization. We invite you to review our values statement and also recommit to our collective work, goals and values.

Together, we remain strong.  Divided, no one wins.  We wish you positive encouragement, good health and continued steadfastness as we continue our work towards a better and brighter tomorrow.

In Solidarity,
Ann Marie Strauss, President
James B. Massey, Jr., Immediate Past President and Nominating Chair
Rosemary Martin Edwards, President Elect
Melisa Hypolite, Executive Vice President
Libby Weith, Vice President of Finance
